Itinerary

3 weeks to discover the best spots of the Australian West Coast

From Perth via Lancelin, to Geraldton and Kalbarri

To make sure you know exactly what to expect on your Wave Safari, you can take a look at the exact route below. Of course it can be a bit different than planned, in order to find the best wind conditions and to meet your personal needs and wishes. By the way, you can also arrive one or two days later, we'll wait for you in Perth until then!

Day 1 - 4:

With the plane we land in Perth, the capital of the federal state Western Australia. The first days we will relax and spend our first kitesurf sessions around the beautiful beaches close to the city. We also show you the city centre, take a trip to a local market and enjoy a beer on "The Island".  In the first days you can expect a real highlight when we start our Downwinder Tour from City Beach to Sorrento Beach. The view of the country during the tour is indescribable and the sun downer will be well deserved and enjoyable.

Day 5 - Tag 10:

On the fifth day we get into the van for a 2-hour drive and head towards Lancelin. You will find a sweet little fishing village with about 700 inhabitants and beautiful white sand dunes. We will kitesurf in dreamlike spots with different conditions – take a ride in the huge shallow lagoon or take unique reef breaks with clean, long waves – you have arrived in the kitesurf paradise of Down Under.

Day 10 - Tag 17:

From Lancelin we continue in the direction of Geraldton. On the way we pass the beautiful Indian Ocean Drive, white sandy beaches, the bays and dune landscapes of Nambung National Park covered with heather plants and small eucalyptus trees. We can stop at "The Pinnacles Desert", the main attraction of the nature reserve. The Pinnacles are limestone formations - a true natural wonder. At Jurien Bay we unpack our kitesurf boards and cruise from Booka Beach in fantastic turquoise blue water to Boullanger Island. In the shelter of the island freestylers get their money's worth with absolute flat water conditions. In an incredible ambience we enjoy a picnic on the beautiful island, where we will also spend the night.

In Geraldton we have something very special for you. In the small town, which lies exactly at the coast, we will settle down for some time and drive to different spots from here. At Coronation Beach, the absolute hotspot for wavekiting, a spectacular 6-day kite camp with the pro wavekiter Gabi Steindl awaits you. She will teach you how to wavekite, perform video analysis and take your skills to a whole new level. Alternatively you can do jump training with our VDWS Teamer Claas Zänker. In the surroundings of Geraldton there are numerous kitespots, which are ideal for all levels.

As an option we keep an excursion to Kalbarri open, a small holiday resort on the coast.  On the way there we stop at the unique Pink Lake, whose colour is caused by an algae.

Day 17:

After exciting weeks full of great kitesurfing sessions we have to slowly make our way back to Perth. To finish off our kitesurf safari, we will do a last downwinder tour to say goodbye to this beautiful and unique place.

Spots

Spots

Our kite safari takes us from Perth north along the coast of Western Australia and back. During the whole tour we make sure that we drive to different spots with different conditions, so that everybody gets his money's worth.

North of Perth the adventure begins and the best conditions for kitesurfing await us. Unique reef breaks, clean breaking waves and dreamlike, protected shallow water spots, which are ideal for freestyling, will accompany us for the next three weeks.

Our longest stay will be at Coronation Beach. The Coronation Beach is one of the worldwide highlights for wavekiting. Here the waves break beautifully over sandbanks and promise surfers unforgettable sessions. Professional wavekiter Gabi Steindl will show you this spot in detail and train you for a week with lots of tips and tricks.

Wind conditions

In addition to unique spots, we are presented with the best wind conditions. During the summer months in Perth and along the west coast of Australia a high pressure area provides a very reliable Seabreeze from S-SW. The further north we go, the stronger the thermals are and the earlier and stronger the thermal winds blow.

Accommodation

During our kite safari we spend the night in cosy airbnb's, small holiday cottages or beach huts, which are situated directly in the dunes on beautiful, wide sandy beaches. All accommodations are very clean, have a good location and invite to a familiar get-together in the evenings. After a breakfast in the morning, we load the boards and get ready for a wonderful day on the water.
